Classic raids and dungeons only had one mode and that was normal. Heroic level versions of the dungeon started in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Starting in Cataclysm and onwards, Heroic level dungeons were introduced for the highest level. The main anagonist race in this dungeon are Night Elf The dungeon contains 16 bosses. The end boss of Dire Maul is King Gordok. Dire Maul, the kingdom of the Ogres is a three zone dungeon that culminates in a battle with King Gordok, There is a quest in the dungeon to make an Ogre suit but this can be ignored.
You used to be able to gain rep with te Shen'dralar are Night Elf practitioners of arcane magic but this is no longer possible. Dire Maul is one of the hardest places to get to, it is situated in Feralas , miles away from any major city and the ground around it is very uneven. The nearest Horde base is to the east at Camp Mojache, a Tauren encampment 75,44 and the nearest The Alliance flight point is Tower of Estulan 57,53 in the opposite direction.
If you do this dungeon whilst levelling a new alt, you will find that the dungeon appears broken up in different sections and you can enter between the levels of 36 and 50 roughly, each having their own dungeon quests to go along with it. There are no achievements other than having completed the dungeon on normal.
With a flying mount it's very easy. Go to 65, Entrnace is in a little door. Or go to 44, Portal right inside a little archway. Comment by Siirenias You mean that, in order to grab the quests for Enchanted Thorium Platemail, I have to level beyond the level range to random it? Comment by Might need to update the levels on this. The quick facts says it is a , but I've been hitting this in dungeon finder since 40 maybe even 39?
Bosses in the east wing are all Comment by adamdhoward As of late, not sure which patch, keys no longer drop if you are 85 and soloing Once done, head out of the instance if you kill Alzzin too fast, the tunnel doesn't open 3. Make way for the open area courtyard, and enter the second part of the instance at the north end of the courtyard Be sure to get the key in the middle of the instance courtyard from the chest sitting all by itself, you really can't miss it as you will need this key to get to King Gordok.
To get to Immol'thar: 1. In the courtyard you went through previously, go to the west side of the courtyard and enter the instance Kill, loot, and pillage 3.
Don't forget to kill the elementals around the pylons both inside his prison area and above it There are 2 pylons in the prison area Easy day:. Comment by adashiel Though all three wings are still part of the same instance, it's no longer possible to move between them, except by leaving the dungeon altogether. Comment by I found that DM North is the hardest instance by far while leveling these days. As a priest healer, I could hardly keep up with the insane amount of damage the tank was receiving about every hit, if not more.
Comment by Currently best place to farm rugged leather. Comment by Indsofin If you still have a Class Book the ones that give you a class trinket , you can still complete it. Go to the Aethenaeum, "use" the book and get the quest. The NPC will accept your book and give you the trinket. Comment by I'm going to just clarify something in the West wing: To get into the Prison of Immol'thar, the door is in Tendris Warpwood's room, but be sure that you kill the elementals surrounding the 3 pylons before you go into the prison.
Saves alot of time, so you dont have to go back and get those and then come back to the prison. Comment by I've been running around for 30 mins..
Comment by I'm confused. I kill the Prince and now I ran down this really long tunnel to a door, but there was no way to open it. How do i get past it? Every time I go looking for them, they are never there in the arena. No herb node spawns, no boss spawns. I haven't spent extensive time camping there however.
Comment by Calydor It appears the exit tunnel in Warpwood Quarter has been sealed off. Quite a shame, I enjoyed the bonus of a few Thorium veins after getting through that section. Comment by Informant Not one comment above help me find the entrance to Gordok Commons. Where is the entrance.? Comment by Informant OK Here it is. To the right is the door that no longer opens and the entrance is on the left if you are facing North. Comment by Informant This is the screen shot to the entrance to GordokCommons.
Blizz should fix this so that they don't flee Before realizing they have a guy left too kill. Strange, that no one has given coords,it took some 5 mins to find all of the main entrances Comment by Finalyzer And where is the summoning stone? Thanks :. Comment by The summuning stone for Dire Maul is at the coordinates 57, Comment by Barleduq I can't find it now, but when I was reading the comments before going into warp wood quarter, someone commented that they missed being able to get thorium ore after running through.
I just found the tunnel behind alzzin, and it had three rich thorium veins before the portal. I was stomping for the dire maul achievement with my poorly geared town blacksmith because I had him out getting fossil shards for dmf. Comment by This is perhaps the only instance where you can kill a quest giver. Comment by worthit Just a little info You can enter this dungeon on foot at lvl Warpwood Quarter You can queue this dungeon as specific dungeon lvl In the specific dungeon finder, this dungeon is orange difficulty lvl , yellow difficulty lvl and green difficulty lvl You can queue this dungeon as random dungeon lvl You have to be lvl 36 to obtain the quests.
Capital Gardens You can queue this dungeon as specific dungeon lvl You have to be lvl 39 to obtain the quests. Gordok Commons You can queue this dungeon as specific dungeon lvl You have to be lvl 42 to obtain the quests. See more in this guide. Comment by Jarakin FYI. Dire Maul was once gladiator arena where King Varian Wrynn fought for his life after caravan of orcs led by the gladiator trainer Rehgar Earthfury found him washed up on the shores of Durotar and took him here.
After many bloody battles, he emerged the victors of the Crimson Ring tournament. Impressed by Varian's skill at arms, the crowd gave him the orcish moniker "Lo'Gosh" — which means "Ghost Wolf". Comment by Mookosh It should be noted that any items above ilevel 50 that are not boss drops should be disregarded as they were gathered pre-Cata nerf of the dungeon level. Combined with the arbitrary removal of most other random mobs of the same level throughout "Classic" content, you will have to look elsewhere for Glorious Legplates , Vanguard Legplates and Lofty Legguards in particular.
When I was high enough to solo them I would get a kick out of guiding twinks through them. Really well designed instances. Whoever designed them deserves an award. I am now in gear and I still love Dire Maul. Pity Sunken Temple got completely nerfed. People might not know this but sunken temple was originally about five times larger, with intricate codes to be unlocked etc.
I never understood why they did that. Anyway fun times. I know mostly don't care and but the reward is nice. If high lvl doing that for mog then go for it. Let lowbies doing bonus objectives for killing all guards from random dungeon.
If Chromie Time is enabled, Dire Maul's level range is , but can only be queued if you're using Chromie Time on the Cataclysm expansion. Check more information on Chromie Time in our guide! Zevrim Thornhoof — Desperate to show his worth to the Burning Legion, Zevrim Thornhoof told his masters he could enslave the formidable ancients who still roamed Dire Maul.
When his own power proved insufficient, Thornhoof turned to other living creatures for additional energy, butchering them atop his sacrificial altar and harvesting their essence in their final, agonizing moments. Hydrospawn — When the satyr Zevrim Thornhoof sought to control the elementals in Dire Maul, he focused on Hydrospawn, who calmly resided in the pool beneath his altar.
As he performed his profane sacrificial rituals, the elemental grew agitated and restless, striking out at Thornhoof's demonic minions. As the years passed, Thornhoof used his victims' energies to whip Hydrospawn into unbridled fury, little by little binding its will to the satyr's commands. Lethtendris — Dire Maul's warped energy drew Lethtendris from afar, giving her hope of satisfying her unbearable craving for arcane magic. Dire Maul is an abandoned Night Elf city located in Feralas that has now been overrun by ogres, demons, and the undead spirits of the Highborne who once lived there.
They have made their home here, with their leader, King Gordok, holding the throne inside the instance. His power has caused the local nature to lose control and the area is teeming with crazed elementals, satyrs, and demons that are all out for blood. The final wing, the West wing, is known as Capital Gardens.
It houses the spirits of the Highborne who once inhabited Dire Maul, as well as an extremely powerful demon by the name of Immol'thar. Immol'thar is trapped by the Prince of the Shen'dralar, Prince Tortheldrin, and his power is being drained to sustain the immortality of Tortheldrin and his remaining loyalists. For the quests in the dungeon, we have put together a full guide that goes over each wing, as well as the class book quests.
The class book quests in Dire Maul allow players to obtain a class-specific trinket that is a variant of the Royal Seal of Eldre'Thalas , with an equip effect that is tailored to their class. The Quel'Serrar questline is available with the release of Dire Maul and, while it mainly takes place in Onyxia's Lair, players will have to venture into Dire Maul to obtain the sword.
