The international terminal was built in the s; at that time there was no need to separate arriving and departing passengers. However, in these days of increased security it has been necessary to reconfigure the terminal to separate these two flows of traffic. To achieve this, one of the most complex construction projects was undertaken to provide a new second storey. Tampa International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the US.
